Saturday, Nov 1, St, Augustine, FLA – Flagler College ends the regular season in second place (10-2-6) against 1st place North Florida (9-4-5). Although the game ended in a 0-0 draw, both teams had plenty of opportunities and shots on goal to show.
There have been some games recently were coaches and players have been addressing their poor ability of finishing in the final third. One of Flagler’s players had input on this topic:
“We as a team know that we needed to a better job, and to finish our chances, but we also know the quality that we have within the team, and I am confident that we have the players to finish our chances going into playoffs.” Said Filip Hornburg.
Hornburg has played every minute of Flagler College Soccer this season as a true Freshman. He also has 4 goals as a defender and 1 game winning goal.
Flagler College coach Thomas Coombes encouraged his side to finish on the team’s chances on goal. He also praised the true freshman Hornburg for his play and abilities on the field.
“Filip is a key player in our system and is the heart of our back line on defense. As a team we need to capitalize on our opportunities' on goal and we need to change that before our first-round matchup in the playoffs.” Said Coombes.
Flagler put 13 shots on net and 4 on goal, while North Georgia had 8 shots with 4 on goal as well. Both teams put on a strong physical-defensive performance while both teams offensively couldn't find a goal to take the win. This game also recorded an astounding 29 fouls and 4 yellow cards from open play. With North Georgia committing 14 fouls and Flagler committing 15 fouls.
Flagler College will next be playing USC Aiken on November 8th, at 2 pm at Saints Field for the first round of the playoffs. In the past meeting between the two teams Flagler won 4-1 on the road.
